As telephone engineers we often spot some weird and wonderful phone systems, sometimes the clients ‘comm’s’ room still have old phone systems hanging on the walls dating back to the early 1980’s, sadly some are even plugged into the mains as no-one knows what they are or what they do.

The thing is whilst things are working well there is little reason to change anything, if it works don’t fix it is often the thought behind doing nothing.

As it happens things have moved on, dramatically.  Just lik...

Free Telephone Systems ?

27 Jul 2017 10:41:59

Now I’m not advocating we pull our phone systems off the wall, put them outside and watch them run away !  I’m saying that with technology as it is suppliers can offer the ‘boxes’ for very little money.

Bursting the Bubble

No matter how the suppliers package their version of VoIP they are all basically derived from a standard PC, just like the one under / on your desk right now.  Clever programming fools the PC into thinking it’s a telephone system.  An operating system such as Linux is overlaid ...

Progression in the Telephony Market – VoIP – The future, NOW

For many years it’s been taken as read to run a business means buying or renting a telephone system with telephone lines, either ISDN or analogue.

I remember when ISDN arrived, it was so flaky we set up another business to promote ISDN connected telephone systems, just in case it was a flop !. With millions of taxpayer pounds put into the development it eventually refined do...

The technology that converts analogue voice signals to a digital format is known as Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP for short. The protocol digitalises your voice converting it into packets of information so we can make a telephone calls directly via a 4G enabled mobile phone, computer, VoIP phones or any other device that’s data driven. Once your voice has been converted and sent over the Internet it can be received ...

VoIP is changing the way we work

12 Jan 2017 16:02:09

Over the last few years, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) has evolved with voice making a gradual transition to the 'Cloud'.

Cloud is a broad term typically referring to data-centre-hosted services that are run and accessed over the Internet.

Cloud telephony refers to voice services, and, specifically, the replacement of the old telephone equipment (PABX's) with hosted or on-site Liberty telephone systems connected not by expensive analogue or ISDN phone lines but via existing FTTC or Fibre ...

Back in 2008 the death knell of the PBX was being forecast – albeit mainly by VoIP suppliers. Whilst sales have dropped and there has some amalgamation of suppliers there is still a strong market. The number of PBX extensions still outnumbers VoIP by around 7 or 8 to 1. So to misquote Mark Twain – reports of the PBX’s death have been grossly exaggerated.

It is the rise of a parallel technology SIP that has blunted many of the arguments put forward by VoIP suppliers suggesting we should throw awa...

The Great VoIP Per Seat Rip Off

14 Sep 2016 09:42:11

As a business we often quote against other suppliers of VoIP.

We find lots of potential clients are confused as to the standing charges as they are being charged for each VoIP telephone connected to the providers system.

If the client has the need for 30 VoIP telephone handsets they could be charged as much as £150.00 + VAT per month even before they've put the key in the door !.

Avoid these providers, usually they're reselling another Companies service so this is how they make their monthly c...

VoIP Telephony - The Facts

Regular Analogue and ISDN lined telephone systems are still effective.

However having a good internet connection has become the norm making these older systems look quite cumbersome and expensive for businesses to continue operating.

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services have come to the fore, ridding businesses of obstacles to sales yet staying connected without compromising services, indeed most customers who move over to VoIP telephone services report increase...

Why Cloud Computing

23 Jun 2016 09:08:05

Why Cloud Computing ?

We hear lots about it but what is it really and what are the benefits of Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing acts more like a network over the internet.

The old office set up had all the workstations connected to Servers via hard wiring (CAT5) the only change being the connection to the Servers is via an Internet connection. It allows access to both existing and more powerful software with unlimited storage.

Rather than purchasing and loading different applications on individual ...
