As telephone engineers we often spot some weird and wonderful phone systems, sometimes the clients ‘comm’s’ room still have old phone systems hanging on the walls dating back to the early 1980’s, sadly some are even plugged into the mains as no-one knows what they are or what they do.

 

The thing is whilst things are working well there is little reason to change anything, if it works don’t fix it is often the thought behind doing nothing.

A new survey suggests many NHS trusts are failing to invest enough in protecting their computer systems and data. Jeff Hart from Acronis argues that the NHS must ensure data protection and back-up provisions are fit for purpose, otherwise patients’ lives may be at risk.

Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital was hit by a ransomware attack earlier this year that shut its systems down, it was revealed recently. Rather than pay the hackers off, the hospital restored its systems from a back-up.
